My Animal Care Experience

In 1997 I graduated with an A.S. Degree in Animal Care and Management from Becker College in Leicester, MA. While at Becker College I worked with dogs, cats and small animals, to learn hands on animal care. I’ve trained dogs through the NEADS/ Becker partnership program, and received the Animal Care Scholarship of the year in 1995. While at Becker I realized I had a skill in cat care.  I have great skills in dog and small animal care, but I had a special connection with cats and felt I could grow a business from that niche. Other students would call me to help them with cat grooming, and cleaning out the cat kennel – and I loved it.

I went on to receive a Bachelors of Science in Speech Performance BSSp in Communication Management and Public Relations from Emerson College in Boston in 2002. On the side I’ve worked as a Publicist promoting local animal rescue and shelter events, benefit and community events, and have been active in the local area supporting animal causes through Purr View TV Show and Blog- www.PurrView.com. I’ve personally rescued and rehabilitated dogs, cats, and a Goffin Cockatoo.

The Kitty’s Corner History

(1997-2004) It all started in Whitman, Massachusetts, when I opened the The Kitty’s Corner, Cat Boarding, Grooming and Supplies, in January 1997 at 715 Bedford Street rte 18 in Whitman, MA. We offered boarding services for cats with a cat playroom, that had a giant cat tree, lots of scratching areas, a rocking chair with quilts for cats to sleep, rest, plat and watch birds out the window. In addition we offered cat grooming services from nail trims, brushing, shampoo and conditioners. We also carried cat supplies, food, toys and grooming supplies.

(2004-2007) The building was sold in 2004 and I began offering cat sitting services. By this time I was learning a lot about special needs care. I had 8 cats at the time and was providing all their medical and home care needs for special needs pets. I had a cat with hyperthyroidism, a cat with kidney failure and gingivitis issues, a dog with arthritis, pancreatitis, hypothyroidism –  I was doing more care than ever for clients cats that were getting older and needing medications too. There’s nothing more special than caring for a cat that needs specialized care to keep them comfortable at the end of their lives. These cats are basically healthy, but need care to keep them regulated, happy and comforted.

(2007-2014) In 2007 I bought a home in Whitman, where they allowed a home occupation and I was able to continue to offer cat sitting services and add on cat boarding in my home on a small scale using what was my living room, for my business. It was very nice to be able to have cats stay with me, come out of their condos and watch tv with me, while also being able to have their own condo available to them. My house in Whitman, was like a cottage with a bright sunny living room, and my bedroom was right on the other side of the door. I took a break from boarding at the end of 2014 to focus on my wedding in October, a move to Kingston, and time to fix up my home for sale.

(2015) I announced that the town of Kingston as approved my special permit for my business in our new home in Kingston. I continue to offer cat sitting services and now have the ability to care for cats in my cat office in our home cats enjoy the Kitty’s cottage style condos, watching birds from the window hammock, and get to stay in a quiet home environment in my office on the first floor.

(2016) Was Nominated Honorable Mention in the Wicked Local Readers Choice Awards. Won First place in News/Magazine in Alliance For Community Media Video Film Festival.
